 Department of Basic Education is giving another chance to rewrite the National Senior Certificate (NSC) to candidates who did not do well in the May/June supplementary examinations. The NSC candidates, according to the department, may sign up now to write the November 2021 examination.


The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) has launched a campaign against violence in schools. The campaign named ‘I am a school fan’ is set to be looking at the issues of bullying and violence in school as well as  teacher-to-teacher violence.


Poor performance in maths and science continues to be worrying in South Africa. The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) shows that poor performance in these fields affects many school children and the future of the country.


 The Department of Basic Education and the Department of Social Development told the Joint Portfolio Committee of both departments that the shift function of Early Childhood Development (ECD) will be implemented on 1 April 2022. This follows the announcement made by the president Cyril Ramaphosa in the 2019 State Of the Nation Address that the function would migrate from the Department of Social Development to its Education counterpart.
