The Department of Basic Education is giving candidates who did not do well in the May/June supplementary examinations another chance to rewrite the National Senior Certificate (NSC). Candidates can sign up now to write the November 2021 examination. The department reiterates that these exams are only open to NSC candidates who wrote in the May/June examinations.

“This is only for those who wrote the NSC June 2021 examinations,” the department stressed. Senior Certificate (SC) candidates will be given a chance to rewrite their exams in the June 2022 examinations.

Registration opens in October and the exact dates will be communicated in due course, the department said. The main aim of this programme is to afford people who didn't finish or do well in their matric results a chance to improve their marks and obtain their certificates.

“The aim of the Second Chance Matric Programme is to provide support to learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC), thereby meeting the goals of the NDP and the sector thus increasing learner retention” explained the department.

According to the department, the second chance programme enables learners to improve their examination marks and obtain the required symbols for the tertiary institutions. By obtaining better results, candidates will then be able to access bursary opportunities to further their studies.

Upon registration, learners are required to bring their Identity Documents and academic results. Visit the Second Chance Programme website for more.
