The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) will close the 2023 bursary application period on Tuesday, 31 January 2023. This gives prospective beneficiaries less than 24 hours to apply for funding for the current academic year.
Nsfas provided comprehensive bursaries to students enrolled in approved academic programmes at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
If a student is approved for a Nsfas bursary, their tuition and accommodation fees will be paid by the bursary scheme. Funded students will also receive a transport allowance, transport allowance and a stationery allowance.
Students who are interested in applying for a Nsfas bursary can submit an application on the myNsfas website. Applicants must also ensure they have all the required documents to complete their application.
To date, Nsfas have received more than one million applications from students who require funding for the upcoming academic year. At Least 156,000 students have already been approved for funding in 2023.
Students who submitted bursary applications but were unsuccessful can appeal the decision made by Nsfas. Unsuccessful applicants have until 20 February to submit Nsfas appeal for the 2023 academic year. Appeals must also be submitted on the myNsfas portal.
If they meet the Nsfas bursary criteria, there is a good chance their rejection will be overturned and receive funding for 2023. Nsfas will take approximately 30 days to respond to appeal applications submitted by students.
