South Africa has a wide social security net with almost half of the population being recipients of a social grant. These social grants are distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
Sassa offers several social support grants including the disability grant, older persons persons grant and various child support grants. They also offer the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant.
Do Asylum Seekers Qualify For The R350 Grant?
Yes, asylum seekers who qualify for the R350 grant can apply for the relief. The asylum seeker must have a valid 22 permit or visa.
South African citizens, permanent residents, refugees, holders of a special permit under the Special Angolan Dispensation, holders of the Lesotho Exemption Permit Dispensation and holders of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation also qualify for the R350 grant.
