As the new academic year gets underway, many students entering tertiary education will be required to pay a registration fee.
The NSFAS bursary covers tuition costs, accommodation costs, food, transport, textbook allowance, learning material costs and registration fees.
There are student who have paid their registration fee before receiving funding confirmation from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to secure their space at University/
In one case, a student had paid the R4 400 registration fee required by their tertiary institution. However, the student later received confirmation of funding from NSFAS. This meant that the student had paid money that they didn't need to pay as NSFAS covers registration fees.
When the student contacted NSFAS to inquire about whether or not they will be reimbursed for the money they already paid, NSFAS explained that the student would need to inquire at the instition they attend about whether or not their money will be reimbersed.
They said, “Please note as registration payment is not made to NSFAS, you can find out from the institution if they will reimburse you or not include registration money when they claim from NSFAS as you already paid”.
Hello @AyandakhumaloDj. Please note as registration payment is not made to NSFAS, you can find out from the institution if they will reimburse you. Or not include registration money when they claim from NSFAS as you already paid. AM

NSFAS provides students from poor and working-class backgrounds with funding if they are attending a public university or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college in South Africa.
