Students who fall in the missing middle category have until the end of October to apply for Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) funding. Isfap bursaries cater to students studying at selected South African public universities.
Application for the ISFAP bursary closes on 31 October 2022. This gives applicants less than two weeks to apply for ISFAP funding.
These bursaries ensure that students who do not qualify for financial assistance from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) can still attend university.
ISFAP is aiming to reduce the high dropout rate among poor and working-class students in the higher education and training sector. They also want to improve the employability of funded graduates while simultaneously improving South Africa’s skills profile.
Receiving the ISFAP bursary means a student's full university fees are paid in full, accommodation*, books*, meals stipend* and a cash allowance.
Note: *indicates that the amount received by the student is capped.
Students will also be able to access academic support, managed social support, life skills training, mentoring and psychological support.
Requirements For ISFAP Bursary?
- Have a household income between R350,000 and R600,000
- Meet the academic criteria and registration criteria based on the institution they want to attend. This can include a National Benchmark Test (NBT) for some institutions (academic and behavioural strength)
- Required matric results
- Funder constraints (that meet individual funder objectives) will be applied to students applying

These universities were chosen as they have a high proportion of missing middle students and are a mixture of urban and rural institutions. The ISFAP bursary only covers selected courses for students studying at these institutions.
