The Department of Employment and Labour in the Limpopo province is currently running the "Taking Services to the People" initiative, which seeks to assist all clients who have recently been laid off due to termination of contracts.
The purpose of the initiative is to "bring services closer to those who have to travel long distances to access departmental services."
The initiative also includes former Teacher Assistants and farm workers.
Deputy Director of Labour Centre Operations, Dawn Davids, has encouraged clients to take advantage of this opportunity to apply and experience a "one-stop service."
Those who cannot come to the venues where the Labour Department will be stationed can apply online and follow these steps:
- Scroll down to login/ register
- Click register new
- Accept terms and conditions
- Complete the forms
- Click register
Once you have completed all the steps, you will have successfully applied for Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
"We want to ensure that applications are finalised to assist clients to make ends meet during the festive season", said Davids.
Davids is also calling on employers to declare their employees for UIF, in order for their claims to be processed with ease when applying for their benefits.
The Labour Department has asked that employees declare UIF in a timely manner, as officials have been encountering challenges with incorrect and late applications, which in turn affects the Department's service delivery.
To speed up the progress of claims, the Department has asked workers to begin claiming from the UIF as soon as their employment contracts end.
However, since the online platform's launch, the UIF has encouraged workers to use the u-Filling system, in order to speed up the process of claims, but many people have expressed frustration as they find the online platform difficult to navigate.
The "Taking Services to the People" initiative will commence on 7 December 2022, at the Department's Bela-Bela satellite office in Limpopo from 8h00.
