The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has begun processing R350 grant payments for the past two months of June and July. However, beneficiaries of the grant have been faced with confusion as their R350 grant status remains pending for April and May.
Sassa says they could not process R350 grant payments for April and May as the department of Social Development (DSD) worked to finalise a functional verification process. This functional verification process was needed to ensure that all systems are in place for the disbursement of the grant.
Now that the new verification process has been completed by Sassa, the agency will begin processing R350 grant payments for April and May. The agency revealed that April R350 grant payments will be made during the month of July while May R350 grant payments will be made in August.
“April verification's and payments resumed on 12 July 2022. May 2022 verification has not yet started, therefore the status remains pending for the month of May”, explained Sassa.
Sassa also revealed that R350 grant applicants must reconfirm their grant applications at least once every three months.
The reconfirmation of R350 grant applications informs Sassa that applicants still need and qualify for the grant in terms of the regulations. Sassa added that existing applicants can also update their responses to the screening questionnaire, at any time, should their circumstances change or need to correct errors.
