The University of South Africa (Unisa) is the country’s largest tertiary education institution. Every year thousands of new students pursue further education at the institution.
As an Open Distance e-learning (ODeL) institution, Unisa offers flexible learning options, allowing students to study at their own pace from the comfort of their homes. The university's online examination system further enhances its accessibility.
Adult Matric Qualification
The Senior Certificate (SC) is a qualification for adult learners (21 years and older) who want to complete their high school education.
To register for the 2024 exam, you'll need to meet one of the following requirements
- Have a GETC (General Education and Training Certificate)
- Have passed Grade 9
- Have a recognised equivalent qualification with two official languages
You can register at any provincial education office or online at the eServices website.
Can I Do Adult Matric At Unisa?
No, you cannot rewrite your matric through Unisa. Unisa is a tertiary education institution, and it does not offer programmes to rewrite or complete the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or SC, which is the matric qualification in South Africa.
If you want to rewrite your matric, you have other options:
- Department of Basic Education (DBE): The DBE offers a Second Chance Matric Programme for learners who want to improve their matric results. This includes writing supplementary exams or completing a full rewrite.
- Adult Education Centres (ABET): You can register at an ABET centre to complete your matric or improve your results.
- Private Institutions: Several private colleges that offer matric rewrite programs where you can improve your marks in specific subjects.
These options allow you to redo specific subjects or the entire matric exams, depending on your needs.
GETC ABET Level Four Is Not Equivalent To Matric
Umalusi confirmed that the General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) ABET Level 4 is not equivalent to a matric certificate. The GETC is comparable to Grade 9 (NQF Level 1).
The target students for this qualification are people who dropped out of school or could not finish school.
