JSE-listed higher education provider Stadio Holdings has announced the appointment of Merwe Roux as Group Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective June 2025.

Roux is currently the CIO of STADIO Higher Education, a role he has held since October 2023. Prior to that, he served as Head of Continuous Improvement and Innovation for the same institution from October 2021 to October 2023.

“Merwe has already demonstrated his strategic thinking and experience in delivering and executing on key initiatives in the higher education industry,” said Chris Vorster, CEO of Stadio Holdings. “His background as an industrial engineer and entrepreneur brings a systems-thinking and solutions-focused approach to problem solving, which will be invaluable in his new role. We need a growth mindset to build future-ready solutions.”

Roux holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial) from Stellenbosch University and was part of the team when Stadio listed on the JSE in 2017. In 2020, he left the company to found an AI-focused startup, Enlabeler, which he exited during its early investment stage. He returned to Stadio in late 2021 to lead the development of a continuous improvement and innovation function within the office of the CEO.

“We’ve made great progress over the past four years,” Roux said. “Stadio has a proven record of successfully delivering on its strategic goals and has adopted a strong continuous improvement lifecycle approach.”

He emphasised that technology will play an increasingly important role in Stadio’s future. “Driving continuous improvement and innovation through evolving technologies is key to creating a world-class student experience, supporting academic excellence, and unlocking operational efficiencies,” he said. “This is essential for helping Stadio reach its goal of 100,000 students over time. I’m excited about how technology can help position Stadio as a true leader in higher education.”
