Social media was abuzz after a post claimed a new school grade will be introduced. The education department has provided a response to the reports.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has refuted social media claims regarding the introduction of a Grade 13 into the South African schooling system.

Rumours, originating from a recent social media post, falsely asserted that high school would extend to Grade 13, commencing on 1 January 2026.

The DBE has clarified that no such plans exist and cautioned the public against misinformation circulating online.
