The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has opened applications for its February 2025 grants. With over 18 million permanent grant payments distributed monthly, Sassa provides essential financial support to vulnerable individuals across South Africa.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Individuals meeting the eligibility criteria for any of these grants are encouraged to apply without delay.
How to Apply for a Sassa Grant
Step 1: Visit a Sassa Office
Grant applications must be submitted in person at a Sassa office in the presence of an official. The process is free.
Those unable to visit a Sassa office can authorise a family member or friend to apply on their behalf by providing a signed letter of consent.
Step 2: Meet Eligibility Criteria and Submit Documentation
Applicants must meet the specific eligibility requirements for the grant they are applying for. Supporting documents must also be provided to complete the application process.
Step 3: Receive Proof of Application
Once the application is submitted, applicants will receive a reference number or receipt. This document must be kept safe as it serves as proof of application.
Step 4: Await Outcome and Payment
If the application is approved, payments will be backdated to the submission date of the completed application. Applications are only considered complete once all necessary documents are submitted.
The Foster Child Grant, however, is an exception, as payments are made from the date of the court order.
