The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a lifeline for countless South African students. By providing bursaries to cover tuition, accommodation, and living expenses, NSFAS empowers students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education.

When can you apply for NSFAS?

  • Trimester 3 Applications (TVET Colleges only): Open from 2 September to 20 September 2024. This is the final application period for 2024.

The method of application for all 2024 remaining cycles remains the same as the one which was utilised by students to apply for NSFAS funding for the 1st cycle of 2024, meaning the students will apply for themselves online through the NSFAS website.

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, has confirmed that NSFAS is working diligently to ensure a smooth application process for 2025. This includes upgrading systems to handle the anticipated influx of applications.

We are working overtime to ensure that NSFAS systems are ready for the commencement of the 2025 application season, which is scheduled to start in September this year.

What does NSFAS cover?

NSFAS bursaries provide financial support for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Accommodation allowances
  • Food allowances
  • Learning materials

By investing in students, NSFAS plays a crucial role in building a skilled and educated workforce for South Africa.
