Applications for admission to Master's and Doctoral qualifications for the 2024 academic year (some exceptions apply) at the University of South Africa (Unisa) has officially opened.
Unisa opened applications for masters and doctoral qualifications on Thursday 14 September 2023 and is set to close on Friday 10 November 2023.
This timeline gives students close to two months to complete and submit their applications. All master's and doctoral applications and enquiries must be submitted online.
Unisa has stated that all students wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission to the university. This includes:
- First-time Unisa applicants.
- Unisa students changing to a new qualification.
- Students in their final year of study towards an honours degree, postgraduate diploma or master's degree who wish to continue with further postgraduate studies.
It's also important to note that applicants can only apply for one qualification at master's and doctoral level. The university said it's therefore imperative that students meet all the qualifying requirements by applying for admission.
Unisa 2024 Applications Guide
Several steps must be taken before students can apply to study at Unisa. This includes ensuring they meet the qualifying criteria for the course they want to study, gathering all the supporting documents required by the university and ensuring they have a valid email and phone number.
Unisa warned applicants that the due date for uploading supporting documents is the same as the application closing date. They will not accept any documents uploaded after the closing date.

Documents Needed For Unisa 2024 Applications
Students are required to upload the required compulsory supporting documents. In most cases, this will be a:
- Copy of your ID/valid passport,
- Complete academic records (if not Unisa qualifications),
- The ledger and SAQA certificate of evaluation (in the case of foreign qualifications),

Unisa says that compulsory documents will be displayed in red on the upload platform and International students can apply without submitting the SAQA certificate of evaluation on application.
