Matric Remark, Recheck And Rewrite Registrations Close Today

Now that this year’s May/June period for National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate exams has passed, The Department of Basic Education has confirmed the closing deadline for matric rewrite registrations. Registrations for matric remarks and rechecks are also near.

If you are yet to register for a matric remark, recheck or rewrite, today is your last chance to do so. This opportunity is afforded to candidates who sat for May/June National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) exams and did not attain satisfactory results. 

The 2023 May/June Exam Period   

This year’s May/June exam period began 3 May and concluded on 14 June 2023. Following this results where made available on Monday 7 August 2023. The Basic Education Department confirmed that a total of 279 000 candidates nationwide participated in this year’s Second Chance programme.   

The programme has the additional benefit of enabling participating candidates to request to have their exam scripts rechecked and remarked. This means that the Basic Education Department does a thorough evaluation of a candidate’s exam script for that specific subject.

How To Apply For A Matric Remark/Recheck

Candidates can apply to have their exam scripts remarked and rechecked online or by completing an application form which can be obtained from the exam centre in which they sat for the exam. The online application can be done using the steps listed below.

  1. Visit The Government’s Official e-Services Portal 
  2. Click on the education icon, which displays a graduation cap 
  3. Select the Basic Education Option. This will cause several options to appear. 
  4. Select Re-Mark/Recheck
  5. Fill out all the required fields in the online application and ensure all the information provided is correct. 
  6. Once satisfied that all the information is correct, accept the terms and conditions by checking the designated box (√).

Matric Rewrites

Candidates who participated in the 2022 NSC final matric exams also qualify for this year’s Second Chance programme. The closing deadline for matric rewrite registration is today, 21 August 2023.

It is also worth noting that candidates who were writing their Senior Certificate exams are not allowed to apply to write during the 2023 October/November examination and will need to wait for the 2024 May/June examination.

In addition to this, the DBE has released the timetable for the 2023 October/November final exam. According to the timetable, this exam period will begin on Monday 30 October 2023 and will conclude during the first week of December.
