The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed that university student allowances for June 2025 will be paid directly through universities.
This follows NSFAS's decision to discontinue the use of the NSFAS Bank Account system, originally intended to streamline payments.
Student allowances will be paid through an approved NSFAS payment channel.
Although NSFAS had planned to transfer funds directly into students’ personal bank accounts, the implementation has been delayed due to an ongoing court case. As a result, universities will continue handling disbursements in June 2025.
NSFAS Allowance Structure and Coverage
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in approved programmes at universities and TVET colleges. These cover tuition and registration fees, along with various allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Allowances are paid over 10 months, from February to November, in line with the academic year. Students do not receive payments in December or January.
The allowance amounts for university students for June 2025 have been confirmed by NSFAS.
