The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides bursaries that cover all essential student needs. NSFAS has now released the 2025 application dates for Semester 2 funding.
NSFAS offers comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at TVET colleges. This includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.
NSFAS has now announced 2025 application dates for TVET College students, including Semester 2 studies.
Additional NSFAS Application Dates for 2025
- Semester 1 & Trimester 1: Applications are currently open and will close on 15 December 2024.
- Trimester 2: Opens 12 May 2025 and closes 23 May 2025.
- Trimester 3: Opens 8 September 2025 and closes 19 September 2025.
How to Apply for NSFAS Online
NSFAS has confirmed that TVET walk-in applications will not be available in 2025. All applications must be submitted online.
Follow these steps to apply:
- Go to the NSFAS website and click on the "myNSFAS" tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on the "APPLY" tab and complete the required sections.
- Upload all supporting documents as needed.
- Click "Submit" when your application is complete.
Once you’ve submitted your application, it’s essential to regularly check your NSFAS status.
How to Check Your NSFAS Application Status
- Log in to the myNSFAS portal using your credentials.
- Click on the "Track Funding Progress" option.
- Your application status will be displayed on the screen.
Immediate Funding Decisions for SASSA Beneficiaries
Applicants who are beneficiaries of South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants will receive immediate funding decisions.
After your application is reviewed, one of the following outcomes will occur:
- Approved for funding: You’ll be notified of the decision.
- Additional documents required: You’ll be asked to upload supporting documents.
- Declined: You’ll be notified if your application is unsuccessful.
What If Your NSFAS Application is Rejected?
Students who are rejected for NSFAS funding can submit an NSFAS appeal. This allows applicants to provide additional information or documentation to support their case for funding.
