The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has dismissed false social media claims that its 2025 registration portal is closed due to budget issues and that registration templates won't be accepted.
NSFAS called the claims misleading and urged the public to ignore them.
This statement is entirely misleading and constitutes a gross misrepresentation of NSFAS's official position and operational status.
NSFAS also asked the Durban University of Technology (DUT) to correct the misinformation if it originated from them, warning that such falsehoods damage its reputation and mislead stakeholders.
NSFAS Confirms Portal Is Open
In March 2025, NSFAS confirmed the registration portal was open for valid submissions. While the official deadline was 31 March, institutions were urged to submit data by 15 March for timely student payments.
However, some institutions, including DUT, missed the mid-March target, causing delays in tuition and allowance payments.
NSFAS Allowances Paid Out
NSFAS confirmed that student allowances were paid to affected institutions on 6 May 2025, with tuition payments to follow.
“NSFAS can confirm that on the 6th of May 2025, the Scheme successfully released student allowance payments to the affected universities.”
