The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that December's Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments will be made earlier than usual. This is due to the upcoming Christmas and Day of Goodwill public holidays, which fall on the last week of December.
Sassa's grant payment policy states that grant payments will not be made on public holidays and weekends. To ensure that beneficiaries receive their grants on time, Sassa will process payments between 17 and 23 December 2024.
How to Check Your SRD Grant Status
To check your SRD grant status and confirm your payment date, visit the SASSA SRD status website for the SRD status check section. You will then be asked to fill in your ID number, as well as the cell phone number that you used when you submitted your grant application.
Hereafter, you will be able to check the progress of your grant by doing a Sassa status check. For security, you will receive a One time pin. Enter the OTP to see your Sassa grant payment status.
You will also be able to see your SRD grant payment date.
Eligibility Criteria for the SRD Grant
To qualify for the SRD grant, you must meet the following criteria:
- Unemployed: You must be unemployed and not receiving any other form of social grant or income.
- Financial Distress: You must be experiencing financial hardship.
Sassa verifies your information through various databases, including:
- Department of Home Affairs
- South African Revenue Service (SARS)
- Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)
- National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)
