Unisa confirmed that NSFAS allowances will be disbursed from 19 March 2025. From April onwards, payments will be made on the 29th of each month. Only registered students with verified bank details will receive payments.

How Allowances Will Be Paid

NSFAS allowances will be transferred directly into students’ bank accounts via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Payments will only be made to accounts registered in the student’s name—third-party banking details will not be accepted.

Capturing and Verifying Bank Details

To receive NSFAS allowance payments, students must:

  • Access the platform via the link sent to their myLife email.
  • Enter their banking details.
  • Await verification by the bank.

Unisa urged students to monitor their bank verification status to avoid delays. If resubmission is required, it must be done promptly.

Bank Verification Statuses

  • SM (Submitted but not verified): Banking details received, awaiting verification.
  • VI (Verified): Banking details successfully verified.
  • RJ (Rejected): Verification failed—resubmit correct details.
  • UP (Updated by student): New details submitted, pending verification.

Which Allowances Do Unisa Students Receive?

Unisa NSFAS-funded students receive allowances based on their study load:

  • Students with fewer than 60 course credits qualify for a learning materials allowance.
  • Full-time students (60+ credits) receive both a learning materials allowance and a personal care allowance.

Additionally, Unisa students registered for 10 modules qualify for an incidental allowance to cover living expenses.
