The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has confirmed the date for the 2025 NSFAS allowance disbursements, ensuring financial aid is in place for eligible students.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offers comprehensive financial support to students in South Africa who need assistance with tuition, registration fees, and other essential allowances for living expenses. These allowances help cover food, accommodation, and learning materials.
When Will CPUT Pay NSFAS Allowances for 2025?
CPUT has confirmed that NSFAS allowances for 2025 will be paid on 28 February 2025. However, only students who have been approved for NSFAS funding for the 2025 academic year will receive these payments.
These allowances will be disbursed on 28 February 2025 via the Fundi platform.
How to Ensure You Receive Your NSFAS Allowance Payment
To receive your NSFAS allowance, students must update their banking details on the Fundi platform. It is important to complete this process before 24 February 2025 to ensure timely payment for the second month of the year.
All NSFAS qualifying students are urged to capture their banking details to facilitate the processing of allowances before the 24 February 2025 close of business, please find the link: https://mycard.fundi.co.za
Steps to Capture Your Banking Details for NSFAS Allowances:
- Log in to the Fundi platform.
- Click on the option to upload your banking details.
- Enter your ID number, student number, and cellphone number.
- Verify your details to ensure accuracy.
- Enter your banking details and click Update Bank Details to confirm.
NSFAS Allowances for CPUT Students in 2025
CPUT has confirmed that students qualifying for NSFAS funding in 2025 will receive the following allowances:

Books and Learning Materials: A portion of your funding will go towards books, learning materials, and/or a laptop if you are a first-time NSFAS recipient. If you do not already own a laptop, you must purchase one using this annual allowance. This allowance will be paid once during the year and amounts to R5,460.

Living Allowance: Students will receive a R1,650 monthly living allowance.

Transport Allowance: A monthly transport allowance of R787.50 will also be provided.
It’s important to note that while CPUT will handle the disbursement of these allowances, the exact NSFAS amounts for 2025 have not yet been disclosed. In the meantime, the university, along with other institutions, will base their disbursements on the 2024 NSFAS amounts.
CPUT is currently in the process of submitting registration templates to NSFAS to secure funding for students' full cost of study, including tuition and accommodation fees.
Students are urged to ensure that their financial records are up-to-date to allow the university to claim the correct amount from NSFAS and ensure a smooth and timely disbursement of allowances.
Private Accommodation Students: Important Action Required
Students living in private accommodation must ensure that their landlords or accommodation providers register their details and associated costs on the Fundi portal. This registration process must include a copy of the lease agreement to validate the accommodation arrangement and guarantee accurate payments.
Students residing in private accommodation, your accommodation provider/landlord must capture your details and costs of accommodation on the Fundi portal and attach your lease agreement.
This step is particularly important for students not residing in university-managed residences.
CPUT and NSFAS remind students who receive additional funding (other than NSFAS support) to disclose this within 10 days of receiving it. This disclosure is crucial to prevent “double-dipping,” which could result in complications with your NSFAS funding and potential repayment obligations.
