The General Education and Training Certificate (GETC): Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) examinations have officially commenced.
The exam period will begin on 1 November, 2022 and end on 27 November, 2022.
The Deputy-Director General of the Community Education and Training Programme (CET), Thembisa Futshane, has expressed her well-wishes to the CET college students, who will be writing their examinations throughout the month.
Futshane has also reminded students that should they be in need of psycho-social support due to anxiety or any other (non-academic) matter that may be impacting their ability to perform in their exams, they should reach out to the Higher Health Hotline, using the number: 0800 36 36 36.
"I encourage you to familiarise yourselves with the examination requirements and seek clarity from your lecturers on areas of uncertainty," reads the Deputy-Director's message to the students.
ABET is for adults who want to finish their basic education, with the aim of providing basic learning tools, knowledge, and skills.
The GETC is a qualification that is registered at NQF level 1 and is comparable to a Grade 9 or the old Standard 7. The purpose of a GETC is to equip learners with foundational learning by acquiring knowledge, skills and values in specified learning areas.
ABET education does not offer basic and numeracy skills to its targeted audience, but it also provides lifelong learning and at the end of the journey, provides individuals with nationally recognized certificates, that open up new doors of opportunities.
The Community Education and Training (CET) is a programme that allows you to develop basic literacy skills such as reading, writing and basic problem solving. Individuals will receive a nationally recognised certificate and with this qualification, they can improve their chances of finding a suitable job.
