Applications for the WorldSkills South Africa (WSZA) 2027 National Competition are now open, giving students and other eligible participants an opportunity to showcase their talent, innovation, skills and creativity.

Applications for the WorldSkills South Africa (WSZA) 2027 National Competition are now open, giving students and other eligible participants an opportunity to showcase their talent, innovation, skills and creativity.

The national competition features 34 skills areas and is open to individuals who are studying, training or already qualified in a skill related to one of the competition areas.

Who Can Apply For WorldSkills South Africa 2027?

The competition is open to students and skills development participants from a range of education and training institutions.

According to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), through WSZA:

“The competition is open to any student undertaking studies towards a qualification related to the skill at a university, TVET College, Private Skills Development Providers, CET College, or a Technical High School or any student in an apprenticeship or learnership related to the skill or a candidate with an accredited qualification in the related skill,”

This means that eligible participants can come from universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, Community Education and Training (CET) colleges, private skills development providers and technical high schools.

People completing apprenticeships or learnerships related to one of the competition skills can also enter, as can candidates who already hold an accredited qualification in the relevant skill.

What Is WorldSkills?

WorldSkills is an international organisation focused on promoting vocational, technological and service-oriented education and training.

The organisation promotes skilled careers across 72 Member countries and regions and works with young people, educators, governments and industries to help prepare the workforce and talent needed for future jobs.

From the traditional trades to multi-skilled technology careers in the industry and service sectors, supported by partners, industries, governments, volunteers, and educational institutions, WorldSkills is making a direct impact on raising the level of skills throughout the world,”

WorldSkills South Africa Competition

The WorldSkills South Africa National Competition provides young people with an opportunity to demonstrate their practical skills while competing against other talented participants.

The competition covers a wide range of skills, from traditional trades to technology-focused careers and skills in the industry and service sectors.

DHET has encouraged interested participants to submit their applications early and make sure that all required information and supporting documents are included.

Acting Technical Delegate for WSZA, Fumane Mboweni, said the organisation is looking forward to receiving applications from talented individuals across the country's education and training institutions.

“We are excited to open applications for WSZA National Competitions and look forward to receiving entries from talented and innovative individuals across TVET [Technical and Vocational Education and Training] colleges, universities of Technology, CET [Community Education and Training ] colleges, private training providers and technical high Schools.

This initiative provides an opportunity for participants to showcase what they can do and potentially take their ideas, skills and talents to the next level,”

How To Apply For WorldSkills South Africa 2027

Eligible participants can submit their applications online for the WorldSkills South Africa 2027 National Competition.

Applicants should review the full competition information, eligibility requirements, terms and conditions and application forms before submitting their entries.

The closing date for WorldSkills South Africa 2027 applications is 30 April 2027.

Those interested in taking part are encouraged to apply early and ensure that all required supporting information and documentation is submitted.
