The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) recently promised that R350 grant reconsideration requests will soon be finalised and people will start getting their money by the end of June 2022.

Sassa said, “Reconsiderations from August 2021 are expected to be processed by end of June 2022 and payments will then happen thereafter.”

Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu expressed her concern regarding the difficulties in concluding the appeals and assured the Committee that the department will look to fast-track the process.

The minister informed the Social Development Committee that in the previous iteration of the grant, Sassa approved 10.9 million R350 grant applications and paid out R30 billion.

The agency however revealed that more than one million of these reconsideration requests still need to be attended to by Sassa. Only once this is done, then successful applicants who applied for reconsideration will be paid the crucial relief measure.

Minister Zulu indicated that if the reconsideration request is successful, clients will be back-paid to the date on which they made their appeal.

It is however important to note that clients were informed that they had to apply reconsideration requests for every month their R350 grant application was rejected.
