New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Johannesburg, and Women in IT have joined forces to offer a free computer literacy programme to previously disadvantaged individuals.
Explains New Horizons Mohammed Ebrahim of New Horizons Learning: "In order for the country to prosper and to bridge the digital divide as well as imbalances in skills inherited from our past, businesses must get involved in developing programmes to address these problems.
"Women in IT and New Horizons have joined together to create a hub of learning aimed at offering free computer literacy programmes to disadvantaged individuals.'
Called the SIYADALA Project, the project aims to promote and encourage PC literacy amongst individuals, specifically women, who have never been exposed to IT.
"The project will initially offer PC literacy courses at the New Horizons Johannesburg Campus. Thereafter additional computer courses will be introduced. These courses will be designed to meet the PC literacy requirements of general business such as basic office applications, internet and email,' says Erwee.
"New Horizons Computer Learning Centres and Women in IT will continue to empower underprivileged communities and individuals with the skills to be able to join the modern South African economy.
"By doing so we believe we are directly impacting the lives of so many people that we hope in turn will contribute to the growth of the South African nation,' explains Ebrahim
