The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) encouraged rejected SRD grant applicants to apply for reconsideration if they believe they meet the qualifying criteria for the grant.
Despite the call applicants to apply for reconsideration for the SRD grant, Sassa has still not completed the reconsideration requests from as far back as August 2021.
Sassa has reassured grant applicants that they will be paid for each month their application was accepted.
The agency said, “Beneficiaries whose reconsideration applications outcome were successful will be paid accordingly”.
“Reconsiderations from August 2021 are expected to be processed by end June 2022 and payments will then happen thereafter” explained Sassa.
Sassa will not make double payments for the months that have passed since April 2022. However, grant beneficiaries will be paid the money that is owed to them.
The agency explained, “The payments will not be done together, but will be done month by month. More than one payment may be made in a month, but no one will receive double payment in amount.”
Sassa added that they will process multiple R350 grant payments in a month until the backlog is finalised. Once the backlog is finalised, they will resume paying one R350 grant payment per beneficiary every month.
