The outcome of the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams was announced by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday 19 January 2023 with learners receiving their results a day later.
Many of the learners who will receive their results on Friday, 20 January 2023 will be registering at institutions of higher learning for the 2023 academic year. However, many universities and colleges have already begun their registration periods.
Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Minister Blade Nzimande has assured current and prospective students that the late release of the NSC results will not affect the state of readiness for the post-school education and training 2023 academic year.
Nzimande explained that universities began their registration period for the 2023 academic year on 16 January 2023. They are anticipating that these registration periods will close on 20 February 2023.
The minister advised prospective students to continue to liaise and communicate with the universities of their choice through the institution's communication channels.
Nzimande also announced further measures to ensure matriculants and prospective students are assisted with their 2023 registrations. This includes university registration, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college registration and skills development opportunity registrations.
They explained that the department has activated the services of the Central Application Clearing House (CACH) to assist individuals to access university, college, and skills development opportunities
The CACH system will be available to prospective students from 24 January 2023 to 31 March 2023.
Prospective 2023 students were also advised that further details will be provided by the Minister of Higher Education in their annual media. This media briefing will take place before the end of January 2023 following the final engagements with all relevant stakeholders in the post-school education and training sector.
