The Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) was introduced by the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) to supplement income lost by workers in South Africa. These income losses must have occurred due to the Covid-19 lockdowns.
During the first two years of the payment of TERS benefits, the UIF disbursed more than R64 billion to 5,7 million workers in South Africa.
However, thousands of workers who applied for TERS relief did not receive their relief. This could be due to mistakes made during the application process.
The UIF will not process TERS claims if the information provided is incorrect. Mistakes detected by the UIF are referred to as TERS error codes. One of these TERS error codes is ‘Duplicate ID’.
What To Do About ‘Duplicate ID’ TERS Error Code
If you check your TERS application status and receive a Duplicate ID error code, it means the ID number you provided has been registered on the TERS portal before and has received payment.
If the employee ID is correct, there is a possibility that a fraudulent claim was made against the ID and should be reported to the UIF fraud department.
It is important to note that TERS benefits are de-linked from the UIF’s credit system. This means applicants cannot be rejected from receiving TERS benefits if they did not make contributions to the UIF.
