What if I don't qualify for supplementary exams?

Supplementary exams are available to students who want to improve their matric results, but what if a matriculant does not qualify?

Supplementary exams give students a second chance to obtain the results they want. For example students who were sick, suffered a loss or missed a passing grade have the opportunity to try again.

But what about those students who are not eligible to rewrite their exams?

According to the Department of Basic Education all is not lost. There are still some options available to pupils who fall into this category.

Under 21

Are you under 21 years of age? You can re-enrol for the National Senior Certificate at a nearby school. This will require you to attend classes on a full time basis. If you would like to redo your Grade 12 year visit a school near you without delay.

Part time studies

Don't have the time to redo Grade 12? Why not register as a part-time candidate at a Public Adult Education Centre also known as an Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) centre.

These centres are designed to help adults access basic education and achieve their Matric certificate.

Senior Certificate

If you are over 21 you can register for the Senior Certificate (SC). This qualification is equivalent to the NSC but is only available to post-school learners. Registration for the SC takes place closes on 31 January 2018.

Vocational Education

If you were unsuccessful in your examinations you could consider a vocational training course. This can be completed at a TVET college. While entry requirements are set per course, the minimum requirement is a Grade 9 certificate.
