Two of the speakers are the Director and Head of Life Planning at Chartered Wealth Solutions, Kim Potgieter, and Attorney and Mrs South Africa 2024, Tshego Gaelae.

Potgieter is tackling the topic of Midlife and Finances, whilst Gaelae is sharing her journey shortly before entering Mrs South Africa and post winning, plus sharing lessons learnt from working in a corporate environment for 7 years and starting her own legal consultancy business in June 2024.

Gaelae, who is passionate about social justice, shares legal lessons and advice via her YouTube channel, and is also a sought-after keynote speaker and philanthropist.

As Mrs South Africa 2024, I have the ability to increase my focus on raising awareness of social justice issues and promote positive change within my community. I entered Mrs South Africa to challenge myself to imagine myself at my highest potential and surround myself with powerful inspirational women who I could learn from and grow with, and to pass that experience on to other businesswomen in South Africa.

“We started up TWES during the first year of the pandemic,” says Harry Welby-Cooke, country partner, ActionCOACH Southern Africa.

Webinars were a good way for business owners to connect with one another and share their experience and challenges. We continued to host it annually as business owners’ feedback was that the diversity of the speakers, and their experiences as business owners, have continued to provide valuable info and innovative thinking.  The presentations are also pragmatic, providing not only guidance, but case studies.

According to Potgieter,

My talk is about empowering women in their mid-life phase, from a financial aspect, but also from a mindset aspect as an array of simultaneous transitions take place: job changes, children leaving home, caring for ageing parents, evolving relationships, physical changes and health issues. When we talk openly about our financial goals and challenges, we demystify money and make it a tool for empowerment rather than a source of stress.

As we get older, our experience makes us more valuable, not less. There is so much that we can still contribute for as long as you want. Don’t talk yourself into feeling or being old too quickly. Use your experience and knowledge to make an impact. You have a wealth of wisdom to offer the world, and the world needs your insights.

“South Africa is alive with possibility,” concludes Galae.

Our time is truly now, to show off what it really means to be South African- to show off the power in our diversity, in our skills and abilities and in our uniqueness. Our unity needs to come from there. And that is what TWES is about - it’s important to share our stories, you never know who you could impact through sharing your own experiences.
