Who is Eligible for NSFAS?

To qualify for NSFAS funding through a bursary, you must be a South African citizen or Permanent Resident with a combined household income of less than R350,000 per year. Additionally, Sassa grant recipients are automatically eligible.

Who Won't Get NSFAS Funding

  • Duplicate funding: If you're already receiving 100% funding from another source.
  • Second undergraduate degree: If you've already completed one undergraduate qualification and are seeking another.
  • Second certificate: If you've already earned a certificate and are pursuing a second one.
  • Private institutions: NSFAS does not cover tuition at private institutions.
  • Unapproved qualifications: If you're enrolled in a program that is not accredited by DHET and SAQA.

Sassa grant recipients automatically qualify for funding.
