The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides vital financial support to millions of vulnerable South Africans. This article outlines the current grant values for 2025 and provides information on payment dates.
Sassa Grant Types
Sassa administers various grants, including:
- Older Persons Grant: For individuals aged 60 and above.
- Disability Grant: For individuals with disabilities.
- War Veterans Grant: For former members of the armed forces.
- Care Dependency Grant: For individuals who require full-time care.
- Foster Child Grant: For individuals caring for foster children.
- Child Support Grant: For children under the age of 18.
- Child Support Grant Top-Up: An additional grant for specific categories of children.
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: A temporary grant for individuals in distress.
Current Grant Values
The Sassa grant values below will be in place until 1 April when a Sassa grant increase is expected.

Sassa Grant Increases
Grant values are expected to increase on 1 April and 1 October 2025. The exact increase amounts will be announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during the annual budget speech.
Historical increases have ranged from R10 to R90 per grant.
Sassa Payment Dates
Permanent social grants are typically paid in the first week of each month, starting on the second working day. Payments do not occur on weekends or public holidays.
So far, Sassa has released the following grant payment dates:
- January 2025:
- Older Persons: 3 January
- Disability: 6 January
- Children's: 7 January
- February 2025:
- Older Persons: 4 February
- Disability: 5 February
- Children's: 6 February
- March 2025:
- Older Persons: 4 March
- Disability: 5 March
- Children's: 6 March
There's no need to rush to withdraw funds on the first day of payment. Once credited, the money will remain in your account.
