Interview Invites Now Being Sent To Shortlisted Phase 5 Teaching Assistants

Thousands of young people living in South Africa applied to be teaching assistants during the fifth phase of the Basic Education Employment Initiate. Shortlisted candidates are now being contacted for interviews.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) confirmed that schools are now contacting shortlisted teaching assistant candidates for interviews. This is part of Phase 5 of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), which aims to create over 200,000 school-based job opportunities across South Africa.

Successful candidates will receive SMS interview invites from schools or Provincial Education Departments (PEDs) between 19 and 31 May 2025.

What Roles Are Available?

The BEEI offers a range of roles including:

  • Reading Champions
  • Reading Assistants
  • e-Cadres/ICT Assistants
  • Curriculum Support Assistants (CSAs)
  • Handypersons
  • Sports and Enrichment Assistants
  • Laboratory Assistants
  • Workshop Assistants

How the Shortlisting Works

Applications are ranked against eligibility criteria. This process ends on 18 May 2025. Interview invitations are the next step toward final appointments under Phase 5 of the BEEI.

Important Dates and Next Steps

Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews during the scheduled period. Anyone who does not receive an invitation by 1 June 2025 should consider their application unsuccessful.

SAYouth has confirmed that it cannot provide individual feedback to applicants.

When Will Successful Candidates Begin?

Those who pass the interview and contracting stages will start working on 2 June 2025. Each will earn a monthly stipend of R4,000, plus R30 for data.

Contracting is set to be finalised by 31 May 2025.
