The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed that successful candidates will begin working on 2 June 2025. Those appointed will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000 for six months, along with a R30 data allowance.

Recruitment Process and Timeline

The DBE is currently ranking applications based on eligibility criteria, with this process expected to be completed by 18 May 2025. Following this, the shortlisting of candidates will take place between 19 and 26 May 2025.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted via SMS by their respective schools or Provincial Education Departments (PEDs) between 19 and 31 May 2025 inviting them to attend interviews.

The final step involves contracting successful candidates, with all appointments and contractual agreements expected to be completed by 31 May 2025.

Candidates who do not receive an interview invitation by 1 June 2025 should consider their applications unsuccessful. The organisation SAYouth has clarified that it will not provide individual feedback to applicants.

This initiative offers positions such as reading champions, reading assistants, ICT assistants, CSAs, handypersons, sports and enrichment assistants, laboratory assistants, and workshop assistants, helping youth gain valuable work experience while supporting education.
