Apply For NSFAS Bursaries To Fund Tertiary Education
Many learners who have recently obtained their NSC qualification aspire to pursue tertiary education, but financial constraints often hinder their goals.
These students are encouraged to apply for tertiary education funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), which provides comprehensive bursaries to students enrolled in approved courses at Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. The main criterion for NSFAS bursaries is having a household income not exceeding R350,000.
Students planning on studying at a university or TVET college are encouraged to apply for NSFAS bursaries before the 2024 application deadline.

NSFAS continues to prepare for the 2024 academic year and is pleased to confirm that over 1.4 million applications for funding have been received to date, with almost 1 million more applications anticipated. If students apply for NSFAS bursaries, they are reminded to submit an NSFAS Consent Form to complete their application.
It is mandatory for NSFAS to verify the employment status and income level of the parents, guardians, or spouses of the applicant for eligibility. This includes applicants whose current application statuses are "Awaiting Evaluation," "Financial Eligibility," and "Application in Progress."
Individuals who do not qualify for an NSFAS bursary may be able to apply for an NSFAS student loan, a new offering from NSFAS designed to assist students from missing middle backgrounds.
The development of eligibility criteria and conditions for funding for the loan scheme is currently underway; details on the commencement of the application process for the loan scheme for the 2024 academic year will be duly communicated.
The application period for the NSFAS bursary will close on 31 January 2024.
