Sassa pays more than 19 million permanent grants to vulnerable people living in South Africa each and every month. With January only a few days away, Sassa has now released the grant payment schedule.

More than 25 million people will be paid social grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) during the month of January. Here's when all Sassa grants will be paid for January 2024. 

Sassa grants play a pivotal role in providing support to vulnerable individuals and families in South Africa through the distribution of grants. Grants assist families to afford basic goods and services.

Their grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. They are also responsible for the R350 grant.

Sassa Grant Payment Dates For January

Sassa usually begins payments for permanent social grants from the second day of the month. However, they will not pay grants on weekends and public holidays.

For this reason, Sassa grant payments for January will then only commence on the third day of the month. Here's the Sassa grant payment schedule for January:

  • Older Persons Grant - 3 January 2024
  • Disability Grants - 4 January 2024 
  • Children's Grants - 5 January 

SRD Grant Payment Dates For January

Beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will receive SRD grants between 25 January and 31 January for January 2024. Throughout the payment week, Sassa advises recipients to verify their Sassa status on the Sassa SRD website to confirm their precise payment date.

Sassa has however made it clear that payment takes around 2-3 working days to reflect in the beneficiaries' account after the payment has been processed.

How Much Sassa Grants For January Will Be

  • Older Persons grant: R2,090
  • Older Persons (75 years and older): R2,110
  • Disability grant: R2,090
  • War Veterans grant: R2,110
  • Child Support grant: R510
  • Child Support grant (Top-up): R510 + R250
  • Care Dependency grant: R2,090
  • Foster Care grant: R1,130
  • Grant-In-Aid: R510
  • Social Relief of Distress Grant: R350

Sassa recommends that beneficiaries refrain from hastily withdrawing funds on the initial day they become available, saying that the money will remain in their accounts until required.

Sassa grantholders have the option to access grants via bank accounts, retail outlets, mobile cash pay points, and Sassa Gold Cards, which now have an extended period of validity.
