Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up, and the Grant-in-Aid.
Eligible individuals are urged to apply for a Sassa grant as soon as possible.
How To Apply
Step 1: Visit a Sassa Office
Applications must be submitted in person at a Sassa office. There is no fee to apply.
If you can’t apply in person, you may send someone with a signed authorisation letter.
Step 2: Check Eligibility
Each grant has its own criteria. Applicants must provide the required documents.
Step 3: Get Proof of Application
A receipt or reference number will be issued. This is the only valid proof of submission.
Step 4: Wait for Feedback
If approved, the grant will be paid from the application date—provided all documents are submitted.
Note: The Foster Child Grant is paid from the court order date.
Online Applications
Online applications are available for the Child Support, Older Persons, and Disability grants.
If Your Application Is Rejected
Sassa must issue a written explanation if your application is denied.
You may appeal the decision. Visit a local Sassa office for help with the appeal process.
