Umalusi, the quality assurance body, has officially approved the release of the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam results. Their Executive Committee of Council has endorsed the Department of Basic Education's (DBE) November 2023 NSC exam results.
This approval comes after Umalusi conducted rigorous quality assurance processes for various qualifications, including matric exams, National Certificate (Vocational) NCV qualifications, NATED programs, and General Education and Training Certificate (GETC): Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET).
CEO Mafu Rakometsi of Umalusi stated that the council has been diligently working since the conclusion of the matric exams. Following the marking phase, Umalusi received marks for the standardization process.

Umalusi commended all assessment bodies for successfully conducting and managing the 2023 end-of-year exams, congratulating learners who succeeded while encouraging those who did not to persevere. Public schools, under the DBE, administered exams to 898,520 candidates, with adjustments made in various subjects, indicating an upward trend over the past three years.
The Independent Examination Bureau (IEB) oversaw NSC exams for 15,186 candidates, with raw marks accepted in 48 subjects. For IEB, mainly upward adjustments were made in 12 subjects during standardization.
SACAI administered the GETC exams to 257 candidates, with all learning areas having their results accepted as raw. Umalusi's Executive Committee of Council approved the release of SACAI's November 2023 GETC: ABET Results.
What Is Matric Standardisation?
Matric standardization is an annual meeting involving key stakeholders, such as the DBE, Umalusi, the Assessment and Standards Committee, Provincial Education Departments, The South Africans Qualifications Authority, and the Quality Council. The meeting addresses challenges faced by learners and teachers, aiming to factor in various influences on grade 12 examination results beyond knowledge and abilities.
Results for the 2023 exams will be released to candidates on 19 January 2024.
