The University of South Africa (Unisa) has officially confirmed its registration dates for the 2025 academic year. This announcement is crucial for prospective students aiming to enrol at South Africa’s largest university.

Unisa operates through an Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) model, allowing students to study from home without attending in-person classes. In recent years, the institution has transitioned to conducting examinations online, further enhancing accessibility.

This flexible approach makes Unisa a preferred choice for students balancing personal commitments, work schedules, or unique lifestyle demands.

Key Dates for Registration

Undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees, and postgraduate diploma registration will run from 8 January to 21 February 2025 for semester modules. For year modules, the deadline extends to 31 March 2025.

Master's and doctoral students will also be able to register between 8 January to 31 March 2025, although some exceptions may apply.

Short Learning Programme applications and registrations open earlier, from 10 January to 15 March 2024.

Registration Process

The Unisa registration process requires students to follow several steps to secure their spot at the country’s largest university.

  • Step 1: Find your qualification & choose your modules
  • Step 2: Calculate your study & other fees
  • Step 3: Complete & submit your registration
  • Step 4: Pay your study fees
  • Step 5: Prepare For Your Studies

Registration is restricted to applicants who have received and accepted an offer of placement. This applies to new applicants and current students transitioning to a new qualification. Returning students must also register within the set period, provided they have received the necessary registration details.

Fee Structure

Unisa’s fees vary depending on the qualification and the number of modules selected. Additional costs may include registration fees and charges for supplementary materials.

Payments must be deposited into Unisa’s official bank account using the correct reference number. Full payment is required before the registration deadline to finalise enrolment.

Accessing Study Materials

Once registration is confirmed, students can access essential study materials via the myUnisa portal. This platform provides tutorial letters and other resources, ensuring students are equipped for their academic journey.

Unisa has emphasised the importance of adhering to registration and payment procedures to prevent delays in the enrolment process.
