October/November 2024 exams are underway at the University of South Africa (Unisa). Unisa has taken a strong stance against academic dishonesty and online misconduct they have now noticed during the examination period.

It has now been three weeks since the start of the official examination period. We hope your preparations are progressing well, and for those who have completed their October/November 2024 exams, we wish you successful outcomes.

The institution, which utilizes an Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) approach, has observed concerning trends among students, including non-adherence to examination rules, unethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the use of offensive language.

Unisa has warned students that non-compliance with examination rules can lead to severe consequences, such as unmarked scripts or withheld marks. The university has also emphasized the importance of ethical AI usage, stating that submitting AI-generated content without proper acknowledgment or permission constitutes plagiarism.

Our detective measures have indicated increased unethical use of AI tools in responding to examination question papers.

Unisa has zero tolerance for offensive language and aggressive behavior. Students who engage in such behavior may face disciplinary action.

In light of these concerns, we urge all students to reflect on their actions and maintain a high standard of professional conduct. While we are dedicated to supporting and guiding you throughout your studies, we all must uphold the values of integrity and respect that define to our institution.

To ensure a smooth examination process, Unisa has provided students with exam timetables, which can also be accessed online. Students who have not received their timetables are encouraged to contact the Unisa examination office.
