Becoming competant as an Assessor or Moderator, and then being registered with a Seta, does open the door for freelance work. So the price you pay for assessor and moderator training will usually be paid back by the work you secure.
However from time to time certain Setas do provide free assessor and moderator training.
This is because Setas have funds to spend on training and they want assessors and moderators to be able to assist companies in their sector with their accredited training.
If you employed as a training or skills development facilitator and want to do an assessor course the best thing to do would be to approach the Seta that your work falls under. Ask them if they have any free assessor training available.
If your employer is participating with their Seta they might also want to pay to train you to be an assessor. If you can assess their learners at a cheaper rate than a contract assessor it would make financial sense for them.
If you are a contract assessor or SDF you could suggest to your clients that they pay for assessor training for you and you can then work it off but not charging them for some skills planning or assessing.
Can you get free Assessor and moderator training?
