The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is on schedule to announce the final 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on Thursday, 19 January 2023. Candidates are set to receive their results a day later.
DBE spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the department is working to finalise all the required processes and conclude the processing of results. Once this is completed, the candidates will receive accurate results at the examination venues where they wrote their examinations.
Mhlanga says the department did not record any instances of examination papers leaking. However, they acknowledged that instances of group copying did occur during the examinations.
The spokesperson said a report regarding irregularities, including the group cheating incident will be handed over to the examination body, Umalusi, later this week.
“Later this week we will be giving them a report of all irregularities around the country, in fact we have a special meeting tomorrow looking into all your regularities so that we're able to finalise the report which should go to Umalusi so that they are also able to do their part as the quality assurance agency,” explained Mhlanga.
Despite recording irregularities and navigating challenging circumstances around the country, Mhlanga is confident that when results are released in the coming weeks, it will be credible.
They said, “In terms of having risen to the challenge, yes we have, based on the work that we have done, the quality assurance in terms of security, in terms of the administration itself, yes the result will be credible.”
Mhlanga also encouraged candidates to register to rewrite the examinations if they failed to achieve the results they set out to achieve. Candidates can enrol in the DBE’s Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) to receive support while preparing to rewrite their examinations.
