The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is calling on parents to prepare adequately for the upcoming school's online admissions period. This includes ensuring they understand what is required of them for a successful school application and having all the required documentation.
The application period will open on 22 July 2022 at 08:00 and close at midnight on 19 August 2022. Parents can apply online at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za. Alternatively, parents can visit one of the 47 decentralised walk-in centres should they require assistance with submitting applications.
Parents will be required to create a username and password on the GDE admissions website to access the system and submit applications. They are also encouraged to provide one reliable cell phone number when registering their details on the GDE admissions website.
A placement offer for a child in a school will be sent to this cell phone number between 3 October 2022 and 30 November 2022. This offer of placement must be accepted within seven days of the receipt of the message.
Parents are encouraged to apply at schools within a feeder zone that covers their home addresses. This is because placement is prioritised for applicants with home addresses closest to the school within a feeder zone.
These feeder zones are located near the school. To increase the likelihood of the learner being placed at school in their community, parents should make sure their preferred school choices are located within a school's feeder zone.
Parents can apply to a maximum of five schools. These applications must be made according to the provinces’ admission criteria.
