The Department of Basic Education (DBE) saw an increase in enrolled full-time candidates for the 2022 National Senior Certificate examinations.
The department confirmed that the total number of enrolments increased from 733 198 in 2021 to 755 981 in the 2022 school year. Due to this increase, the department made provision of 11,215 more markers (bringing the total to 52,801) compared to 41,596 markers in the previous year.
Matric learners are expected to write their last paper on the 9th of December 2022, thereafter the marking session will start on 10 December and conclude on 20 December 2022.
This year’s cohort of matric candidates sat for their last exam paper on the 9th of December 2022, and this was consequently followed by the marking session on 10 December.
In a statement, the Education Department has revealed:
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will announce the class of 2022 matric results on 19 January 2023.
It is on the following day, 20 January 2023, that the matric class of 2022 will be able to fetch their results from examinations centres/schools.
After candidates have received their marks, they will be allowed to apply for a re-mark or rechecking of their scripts up until 3 February 2023.
Individuals that have plans to register for the 2023 May/June examinations have an opportunity to do so until 8 February 2023.
Those who would like to register for the 2023 October/November year-end examinations have until 15 March 2023 to register.
Fortunately, the DBE introduced a government programme known as the Second Chance Programme for matric learners who would like to take another shot at rewriting their matric.
While the department has face-to-face classes available, it has also integrated technology that will benefit individuals when taking part of the matric rewriting programme.
