The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will hold a briefing on Thursday, October 28 2021 to announce its funding plans for the 2022 academic year.
Minister of Higher Education and Training, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande will join NSFAS Board Chairperson Mr Ernest Khosa in addressing the media around the funding.
They will be announcing the dates for when applications for funding will open and close as well as enhancements that have been made to the myNSFAS portal.
NSFAS provides government bursaries for deserving students looking to further their education at any of the 25 public universities or 50 TVET colleges in South Africa.
Minister Nzimande was visiting the NSFAS Head Quarters in Cape Town to assess the state of readiness for the 2022 online applications system process.
He said, “I am quite confident from the demonstration I have seen, that we are ready to open the 2022 online application for eligible students.”
Mr Khosa says he is confident that the scheme will be better positioned to help students should they face any challenges with the online system.
“We appreciate the confidence and the support the new NSFAS Board and management is receiving from the Minister. Our team has demonstrated to the Minister all the stages each application will go through when submitted by an applicant. We were able to assure the Minister that we are much better prepared to deal with any challenges that may come,” concluded Khosa.
