Having your work time reduced is extremely difficult. This as reduced time often means you will receive less pay while your expenses remain the same.

If your work time has been reduced, you may qualify for Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) reduced work time benefits.

Here are the qualifying conditions for reduced work time benefits:

If you are employed, but your work time has been reduced, you qualify for reduced worked time benefits. This is according to the Section 12(1)b of the Unemployment Insurance Amendment Act 20 of 2016.

You will also qualify if your total income falls below the benefits level which the contributor would have received, if he or she had become wholly unemployed, he will qualify for benefits and the claim will be approved. The applicant's benefits are subject to credits.

  • 13 Digit Barcode/Smart card ID, passport or asylum seekers permit, (Valid Foreign National Passport/ID card/Asylum seeker/refugee document)
  • UI 2.1 form
  • UI 2.8 form
  • UI 2.7 form

The UIF uses a credit system to determine how long you may claim benefits for. This process is measured in days. For every four days you work, you will receive one credit. The maximum amount of credits a contributor can acquire is 365 credits/days.
