Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana recently revealed that R28.3 billion in 2021/22 will be allocated to social grant-based relief.
This as more than 27.8 million South Africans, permanent residents and refugees are social grant beneficiaries. Around 9.5 million of these grant recipients receive the Special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant. The SRD grant is expected to end in March 2022.
Grants in South Africa are distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). SASSA has provincial offices where grant recipients and members of the public can get information regarding the services and grants offered by the agency.
