Approximately 46% of South Africa’s population are social grants recipients. This percentage includes people who receive the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Government social grants are distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). Grant recipients can choose between getting the money paid into their bank accounts or collecting it at a South African Post Office Branch.
Here are SASSA payment dates for December 2021
Older person’s grant: Wednesday 1 December
Disability grant: Thursday 2 December
Children’s grants: Friday 3 December
SASSA does not pay the R350 SRD grant on a designated day of the month. They encourage all SRD grant recipients to wait for an SMS confirming that their money is available before going to the post office.
Alternatively SRD grants can be collected at Pick N Pay or Boxer stores country wide. Click HERE to find out how to collect your grant from these stores.
SRD grant recipients can also choose to have their grants paid into their banking account. Click HERE to learn how to submit your banking details to SASSA for the SRD grant.
