Sassa Payments To Be Received Through Retailers For Now

Every first week of the month, almost 50% of the South African population receives social grants from the South African Social Security Agency. However, grant recipients were met with great disappointment this time around when they were supposed to receive their funds.

Recently, a number of social grant recipients disappointedly went back home when the services of the South African Post Office were not working due to technical glitches.

Post-bank customers wishing to make over-the-counter transactions were also adversely affected by this.

According to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), the cause of these technical glitches have been established.

Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi has also shared that a management meeting will be held for the latest developments on these glitches and for possible solutions for social grant recipients as they were meant to have had access to their grant funds before the weekend.

In a statement, Postbank Interim CEO Lucas Ndala said:

All the customers are advised to utilise retailers and ATMs as alternatives, while we are working on retaining full services availability with Post Office branches.

Withdrawals of social grants can be made at any retail outlets across the country that provide the cashback functionality such as Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer.

Letsatsi has shared that Sassa grant recipients can also use the Sassa gold payment cards for purchases at any place that accepts bank card transactions.

Ndala has since apologised to the affected grant recipients and Postbank clients for the inconvenience caused. Postbank has confirmed that it will publicly communicate its resolution to these technical glitches.
