The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) have revealed that students who recently participated in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college examinations are implicated in irregularities.
The DHET said that the scripts of 41,805 candidates who wrote four TVET college exams were implicated in the irregularities.
Irregularities were detected in the Maths N3 examinations, Engineering Science N3 examinations, fitting and Machining N2 examinations and the Electro-technology N3 examinations.
An audit was instantly conducted by the DHET concerning the irregularities. The report was then forwarded to examination quality assurance body Umalusi for evaluation.
DHET Minister Blade Nzimande said that 39,777 candidates were cleared of irregularities. However, around 2,028 candidates still remain implicated in serious irregularities and their results remain blocked.
“Umalusi National Examinations Irregularities Committee (NEIC) will make their final decision and possibly release outstanding results by Monday, 5 September 2022,” said Nzimande.
They added that the DHET and Umalusi will communicate further with stakeholders on their final decision soon.
